Smart Flow: Anomaly Signals

You follow more markets than you can research on any given morning — so where do you actually spend the next twenty minutes? Smart Flow is an early-warning radar that surfaces "something unusual is happening here" before it shows up in the headline price, and it ranks every signal so a shortlist builds itself instead of you hunting for one. For a buyer, the same radar doubles as early warning on a cost line: an anomaly on a commodity you purchase is worth a look well before it becomes next month's invoice surprise.

Five detectors, one screen

Smart Flow continuously scans five independent dimensions of market behaviour at once, and a row of summary cards at the top counts how many signals are currently bullish, bearish, and neutral — your one-glance read on the overall mood before you open a single signal card.

  • Positioning — extremes in how large participants are leaning, such as a crowded speculative side.
  • Volume — trading activity far outside its normal range.
  • Volatility — a spike or collapse in price turbulence.
  • Regime — a shift in the market's underlying state.
  • Correlation — a pair or cluster breaking away from its usual relationship.

Reading a signal: Direction, Strength, Grade

TagWhat it tells you
DirectionBullish, bearish, or neutral.
Strength (0–100%)How unusual a single move is versus normal — a high reading marks a genuine outlier, not routine noise.
Grade (A–F)A composite opportunity score measuring how many independent detectors agree at once; an A means real multi-signal confluence.
DetectorsWhich underlying checks fired — positioning, volume, volatility, regime, or correlation — so you know what story to verify.

The distinction worth internalising: Strength measures the size of one anomaly, on its own; Grade measures confluence — how many independent detectors are pointing the same way at once. Rank by Grade first, then use Strength to break ties within a grade. A Grade-A bullish signal with a strong reading and three detectors firing together is far stronger evidence than any single indicator taken alone.

The Grade A/B workflow

  1. Read the summary cards — Take in the overall bullish, bearish and neutral count first — your one-glance read on the market's mood before you open anything.
  2. Sort by Grade and work from the top — The ranking has already done the first cut for you; start at the highest grade and work down, not the other way around.
  3. Filter to Grade A/B with a clear direction — This is your highest-conviction shortlist. Filter by direction too if you only want bullish or only bearish ideas today.
  4. Open the signal and read its detectors — Know why it fired before you research it further — a positioning extreme calls for a different check than a volatility spike does.
  5. Cross-check before acting — Confirm the story against the regime state, COT positioning, and whatever you already saw on the Trading Dashboard — a signal is a prompt to look, not a verdict on its own.

Ignore the long tail by design. Low-grade signals are noise you're meant to skip past — the discipline that makes Smart Flow work is spending research time only where several independent detectors agree, not chasing every flicker on the screen.

Smart Flow sits between the morning triage and structuring an actual trade: it turns a dashboard-sized shortlist into a ranked set of real ideas worth your research time. Keep the trust framing in view while you use it — a signal is decision support for prioritising where to look next, not investment advice and not a trade instruction. Always verify the story a detector points at, against the underlying data and your own judgement, before you commit any capital to it.

A Smart Flow signal is a cue to go look at the number behind it.
